ALLMAN BROTHERS DEBUT 'TEARS OF RAGE'

I wish I'd been back at the Beacon Theatre in New York the other night (for the first time since Bob Dylan's concerts there in 1989) for the Allman Brothers concert at which they played the Dylan/Manuel song 'Tears Of Rage', and beautifully:

It is indeed a fine performance.

Would love to hear Gary Brooker sing it, with Richard Thompson on guitar.

    1. I think Gary Brooker's vocal would sound pretty similar to this one, but yes. Yes to Richard Thompson on guitar too. Or Freddy Koella. I'm happy with this Allmans one though. The band - each instrument, and the interplay - is so alive and in the moment. If only Dylan's current bands were half as good.

  3. Lovely version, such a pity bands like the Allmans rarely play in Europe

  5. Great version by an outstanding band. Love the horns as well. Levon must be smiling in heaven.

  7. very fine rendition. Sorry Michael, while I respect your opinions and enjoy your writings, to say Bob's band is not half as good, is just not correct, in my opinion.

    Talk about an exaggeration....

  8. Whoa - amazing! Allmans, just put out that show, as is, as a buyable download, and I'd buy that puppy today. Wonderful.

  10. ABB is performing this song the day after the anniversary of Richard Manuel's passing. Just beautiful.

  11. Interesting. Thank you Michael for bringing this performance to our attention.
Other than covering the work of classic bluesmen, the Brothers generally play their own stuff. Over the past few years they stepped out of their portfolio and performed on many occasion "Blind Willie McTell", a song of similar lineage as "Tears of Rage". Of course, Blind Willie's "Statesboro Blues" was an ABB staple since the days of Duane and Berry but their returning to the well of Dylan/The Band demonstrates to my mind their respect and admiration for that body of work.
