"Bob is always Bob. So at that session, he was *specifically* always Bob." That's deep, Al. And if "New Morning" was an answer to the bad reaction to "Self Portrait", how come it was recorded before "Self Portrait" was released? Pinhead.
When saying that Another Self Portrait was not an essential purchase in that post, I meant this in comparison to earlier volumes in the Bootleg series, which included songs of the quality of 'Blind Willie McTell', 'Series of dreams', etc. and what will presumably emerge from those covering the 'Blood on the tracks' period. 'Another Self Portait' is well worth buying but ultimately does not substantially enhance Dylan's stature in the way earlier releases in the series have done...

ReplyDeleteHas anubody else noticed that the portait on the cover is of Mick McCarthy, the former Irish soccer manager...
ReplyDeleteThis adds a new layer to Dylan's post-post-modernist ironical take on the pitfalls of celebrity...
There is also a play here on 'If Dogs run Free' and the fact that McCarthy once managed Wolves...
