NEW YEAR'S GREETINGS (TRIFFIDS STYLE)
Thanks to the prolific tweeter Neglected Nuggets (@thelostrecord) for digging this one out, and so reminding me how much I like this underrated Australian band. Sarah and I saw them live just once, at what was then Leeds Polytech, by which time we had four of their albums. My favourite track of theirs is the long and majestic ‘Stolen Property' on the Born Sandy Devotional album of 1986. The other three, all on vinyl, are Raining Pleasure and Treeless Plain (both 1984) and In The Pines (1986).

Great selection from a magnificent band. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteHi Michael, glad to hear that you're an admirer of the Triffids, a wonderful, underappreciated band who are only now beginning to really get their due. If you're not familar with The Black Swan (1989), the album this song is from, then it's definitely worth picking up. Barring a few dated, misguided attempts at rap/electro, it's a magnificient album. All of the Triffids album were reissued on Domino a couple of years back. There's also a great, insightful bio on David McComb - Save What You Can by Bleddyn Butcher - out now.
